  • Vaccinations

Check with your Doctor as to your vaccination status on the following around 4 months before you travel (September 2024). You should receive any vaccinations needed for India at least 4-6 weeks before your departure date to give them time to work.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that all travellers are up-to-date with their routine vaccinations including measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, influenza and pneumococcal. These vaccinations are given as part of the National Immunisation Program (NIP). For a full list please refer to the NIP schedule, available here.

Other vaccine preventable diseases that are considered a risk in India include cholera, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and typhoid. Your doctor will be able to let you know which vaccinations are recommended for you, based on the time of year, destination/s, activities planned and the duration of your stay

  • Water:

Water at the Centre is treated by reverse osmosis and is safe to drink.  Throughout the ashram grounds, ON DESIGNATED POINTS – READ THE SIGN “Drinking water”  Outside the Centre, drink bottled beverages and/or bring water disinfecting tablets.

  • Probiotics :

It is strongly recommended to take a course of probiotics 2 weeks before you travel and continue during your stay.

When traveling to India, up to 70% of individuals experience digestive issues such as traveler’s diarrhea, bloating, or indigestion. These problems often arise due to the consumption of contaminated food or water, or the introduction of new spices and flavors that your digestive system isn’t familiar with.

To minimize the risk of developing this unpleasant condition, it is recommended to take probiotics that are rich in strains such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus or Saccharomyces boulardii.

It makes a real difference and dramatically reduces your likelihood of digestive issues.

Dress code:

Usual dress code for ashram life: Cover your shoulders, cleavage and thighs (unless doing Yoga) .  Strap tops, mini-skirts or short shorts, and tight clothing are considered inappropriate – tight jeans are fine, as long as you wear a long, loose top, T shirt or shirt over them to cover your bottom.

Cotton items are better suited. There are options at the Bookstore to buy local clothing. Bring sport shoes and open shoes. Shoes to be removed to access the meditation hall.

Those who wish to join the group meditations to enhance the experience will rug up with puffer jackets, socks and beanies.
