John Smith

John has been studying and practicing yoga since 1982. In 1987, he traveled to Mysore, South India, to study under one of modern yoga’s most eminent teachers, Shri Patabhi Jois. He went on to study Raja Yoga under Shri Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari of the Shri Ram Chandra Mission in Chennai (Madras), in Tamil Nadu. Here he prepared as an instructor/trainer. John has been practicing and teaching Raja Yoga under the Heartfulness Meditation System for the past 32 years. He has also completed 350 hours teacher training with Pine Rivers Yoga and is a qualified Yin Yoga Level 2 teacher. John is passionate about sharing this beautiful practice of yoga with those who show interest in personal development and wellbeing.

Swami Jasraj Puri

Swami Jasraj Puri is a Registered Senior Teacher with Yoga Australia. He started as a Physiotherapist, then travelled to India and lived in an Ashram, studying and teaching yoga and yoga philosophy. He has been teaching yoga and meditation in Australia, Europe and India for more than 20 years. He managed the Yoga in Daily Life Ashram in Rajasthan which includes a school for 1500 pupils, a hospital, an animal shelter and a research centre. In 2010 he became the first western Swami to be awarded the title of Mahamandaleshwar (scholarly saint) of the Mahanirvani Akhara, the highest title of the Haridwar Kumbh Mela order of monks. His main focus is on meditation, and different ways of exploring our innate inner potential through calming the mind and working with breath.

Lucky Sussmilch

My yoga journey began over 13 years ago, studying Iyengar yoga. I found Yoga to be an invaluable tool during this busy time in my life (which included the birth of my three kids). The many physical and mental benefits including flexibility, focus and the gift of taking time for myself, kept me coming back and I was hooked. In June 2017, I completed a holistic and intensive Yoga teacher training course (200hrs) that inspired my transition into the role of yoga teaching.

I find Yoga is essential to stay centred and also in tune with what is happening in our busy daily lives. My goal is to help my students connect with the mind, body and spirit. We are all continually learning and growing each day, I hope you will join me in this journey of self discovery and growth.

Yu

I expected my first yoga class to be a flexibility test. Instead, I discovered ‘concentration’. I had had ADD. In yoga, I found I could focus and discipline myself. To my delight, I also felt a quietude and serenity that I had never experienced before. I noticed that just one class supported me mentally throughout the whole week. My attention span increased in all aspects of life and my compulsive behaviours decreased.

I went on to complete 350 hour yoga teacher training with YIMI. I was amazed at, and am continuing to deepen my understanding of Iyengar Yoga. Every action in the yoga practice is executed very carefully and precisely, as if making a wonderful piece of art. It allows me to enjoy ‘slowing down’ and ‘stopping’ more. It gives me time to experience asana slowly and fully at that moment. It connects me with parts of my body I had never been aware of. This is the yoga experience I try to share when I teach.

Maitha

Maitha has dabbled in yoga since she was a small child, when she used to watch TV in shoulder stand. She has practiced on and off for years but only became really serious about it after she had her second child. Maitha loves the union of mind, body and breath that you get from a regular yoga practice and most importantly, strives to help others achieve their yoga goals through a sense of Lila (fun) and joy, on and off the mat.
She recently graduated from level one vinyasa training at Brisbane Yoga Space.

David

I believe yoga is much more than just the world’s best system for staying healthy. The practices and philosophies of yoga energize your body, mind and soul and lead to a deep inner happiness. Although I started practicing yoga 30 years ago, it was in 2012 when I began attending daily yoga classes that I truly experienced the full benefits of yoga and discovered changes happening on the inside. My teacher training began in 2015 with the completion of over 100 hours of “immersion” in an Anusara-based system under Julie Smerdon. In 2017 I completed a further 250 hours in a Vinyasa system under Jacqui Sellers. In 2018 I travelled to India and completed 300 hours in a traditional Hatha system at Shiva Tattva in Rishikesh. I started teaching yoga classes in 2016 with a style that combines alignment and flow with a sprinkling of philosophy.

Helen

Helen has been practising yoga for six years, gravitating towards vinyasa yoga for its flowing style and the way it encourages a moving meditation. While she initially started yoga to experience its physical benefits, it wasn’t long before she started to appreciate a deep sense of calm, groundedness and contentment during her practice. Yoga has helped her deal with tough times off the mat, and she loves the way it offers a way to connect her body, breath and mind. Helen has recently completed her vinyasa yoga training at Brisbane Yoga Space and is excited to share her love of yoga with others.

Ally

Ally is a level 1 Yoga teacher accredited with Yoga Australia. She has completed both level 1 and level 2 teacher training (500hrs) in Purna Yoga with Byron Yoga Centre. Ally has also completed certification in ‘yoga for all’. She has practised Yoga for 10 years, starting her love of Yoga as an hour of 'me time'. Ally's goal as your teacher is to provide a safe environment for each individual to come and practice. She is passionate about sharing all the benefits of yoga and showing you that Yoga can be performed by anyone - no matter what age you are, what size you are and how flexible you are or aren’t. Yes, you can do Yoga!

Nuria

I came to the practice of Yoga with Yoga in Daily Life, in my early 20s with a curiosity to learn about meditation. I was also seeking answers to questions – the big life questions. Time and again, I have found that Yoga and meditation are great tools for dealing with life’s challenges. So, I am one of life’s learners and seekers...and I haven’t stopped learning since! My educational background is in Psychology and I worked in medical research (palliative care and oncology research), counselling, art therapy, community activist and support roles before I trained as a yoga instructor. My intention is to offer compassion and support to students who want to experience a body-based transformation process in a safe space. From personal experience, when you slow down, connect inwards, and listen to your heart and body’s wisdom, you have a clearer picture of what you need to be your most vital and peaceful self. My interests lie in mental health, womens’ health and life-stage transitions, and I love to combine Yogic Philosophies with evidence-based Western psychology. I initially qualified as a Hatha Vinyasa instructor in 2015 with My Health Yoga. I also teach Yin yoga, and I have additional specialisations in trauma sensitive yoga and mental health aware yoga. I continue to practice with and be mentored by wonderful teachers in the Iyengar and Viniyoga traditions. I am passionate about and inspired by nature, our animal friends, and the human brain and body, as well as living my yoga with my husband and two kids, who give me strong foundations.

Sarah

I found Yoga as a young mother of two boys, working as a high school science teacher. I'm not a sporty person; I loved the simple movements and the opportunity to reconnect with myself. I learned how to connect with my breath and not sweat the small stuff. By the time I was able to train as a Yoga Teacher (500 hours with YogaPhysio) I also had two little girls and practised safely throughout pregnancy. My boys are now in their 20s; I've practised Yoga for 18 years and have been sharing my love of Yoga through teaching for 8 years. My classes reflect my teacher Fiona's style of Hatha Yoga; combining Pilates for core strength, traditional Yoga, some flow and my own innovative sequencing & style. Every student is encouraged to build strength, flexibility and Well-Being through a practise which is gently active, focussed yet relaxed. I love Yoga for the way it makes me feel - energised and relaxed - and this is the practise I bring to students.
